The Atlanta duo of Mattiel Brown and Jonah Swilley return with their third album, a splendid set of songs filled with sharp, profound lyrics and strong melodies, expressing a dusty US highway, spanning indie, rock, and a dash of country, and Cake. Mattiel Brown’s voice, powerful as ever, seems to have a broader range, with a smoky, throaty addition to the palette as well as purity. Standouts include Jeff Goldblum, the actor as an extended metaphor in this love song, Lighthouse, Blood In The Yolk, which is an expression of the fragility of love, the talky Subterranean Shut-In Blues, Other Plans and closing track How It Ends. Top class. Out on Heavenly Recordings.
