This fourth LP by saxophonist Pete Wareham, Mauritian vocalist Kushal Gaya and co is perhaps their best yet mix of fabulously stompy, staccato, dance-punk, Afrobeat, jazz, with Egyptian and another influences, buzzing with frenetic fervour. The album title track expresses a restlessness and sets the heady pace, and Nightsiren with a heady mix of drums, sax and menacing vocals ramps it up further with fabulous low blasts of added brass. Even the slower numbers Boots of Leather, All We Have and the smoky Ghosts On The Run have an explosive energy. For Real has a glam element, and Balance is verges on an indie-rock-style anthem, the saxophone solo sounding like blistering electric guitar. Closing I Got Time gallops with further infectious riffs. As meaty, dancey, fusions go, it’s hard to beat Melt Yourself Down for their coherence and originality, and a must-see live experience. Out on Decca.
