Classy, supercool and stylish, the revered German-born American bassist and vocalist returns with an album of distinctive and varied fusion of funk, jazz, Afrobeat, electronica and hip hop with a variety of distinctive guests. This is a long album of 18 tracks, some are shorter and more experimental, some move in a more conventional in structure. It’s an LP to immerse yourself into to get the full groove, but among the standouts are the funky Omnipuss; Vuma with Thandiswa and Joel Ross; Gatby, which includes Joan As Police woman; Clear Water; Georgia Ave; Tower; An Invitation; and ASR. After 30 years in the business, it’s also her debut album on Blue Note.
