Lost Horizons – Ojalá
How does ex-Cocteau Twin and Bella Union boss Simon Raymonde find the time, with his label hitting its 20th anniversary, to squeeze in a new collaboration with drummer Richie Thomas? But here it is and what a lovely thing. Raymonde has roped in a few of his mates including Marissa Nadler, former Midlake frontman Tim Smith and Liela Moss of The Duke Spirit to enhance the delicate air of melancholy.
Lost Horizons – The Places We've Been
Shed Seven – Instant Pleasures
First album in 16 years from the York indie rockers. They've sensibly stuck with their winning formula - these songs will be given a clenched fist airing on their upcoming UK tour.
Shed Seven – Room In My House
Quicksand – Interiors
You may think Shed Seven took their time but post-hardcore fans have been waiting 22 years for a new Quicksand record. This sounds surprisingly fresh with that throbbing bass sound propelling things along nicely.
Quicksand – Interiors
Angel Olsen – Phases
Phases is a collection of Olsen’s recent work, including a couple of unreleased tracks. Fly On Your Wall, previously contributed to the online-only, anti-Trump fundraiser ‘Our First 100 Days’ and Special is a brand new song from the My Woman recording sessions. Both ‘How Many Disasters’ and ‘Sans’ are home-recorded demos that lean heavily on Olsen’s arresting croon and lonesome guitar.
Angel Olsen – Special
EERA – Reflection of Youth
The moniker of the Norwegian-born, London-based musician Anna Lena Bruland, this is simmering, slow, intense material with a hue of Lana Del Ray Recorded in on a working dairy farm in Pembrokeshire in West Wales, it has a sense of isolated, reflected honest, addressing modern-day issues with circumspection.
EERA - Reflection of Youth
Evanescence – Synthesis
Working with the composer David Campbell, the American rock band’s fourth album is something of an oddity, other than two new songs, a stripped-back reworking of mostly earlier material with orchestral and electronic arrangements.
Evanescence – Imperfection
Spinning Coin – Perma
Here's something that could be regarded as a Glasgow sound with jangly guitars and a fine tradition of indie songwriting in the mould of Teenage Fanclub and Veronica Falls. Sean Armstrong and Jack Mellin and a group of musicians recorded this album with Edwyn Collins at his AED Studios, and at the city’s Green Door Studio with Stu Evans.
Spinning Coin – Sleepless
Ian Svenonius/Escape-ism – Introduction To Escape-ism
The charismatic US singer from Nation of Ulysses, the Make-Up, and Chain and the Gang is releasing his debut solo album under the Escape-ism moniker (named after a famous James Brown jam session?). Cutting-humour and catchy electronica with a hint of punk.
Ian Svenonius/Escape-ism – Almost No One (Can Have My Love)
Paul Weller – One Tear
Another 12-inch single release from A Kind Revolution sees the Modfather in more experimental form flirting with a dance beat.
