Moon Duo - Occult Architecture Volume 1
Moon Duo’s fourth album is a psychedelic yin-and-yang affair split over two separate volumes released this year. Volume 1 is feminine, darkness, night, earth – what that means is that it sounds a bit like The Sisters Of Mercy fronted by Jeff Tweedy. Once they settle on a riff they're tenacious in squeezing the last breath out of it!
Moon Duo – Creepin'
Elbow – Little Fictions
Elbow return with their seventh studio album, recorded in Scotland and Manchester. It features collaborations with members of The Hallé Orchestra, the Hallé Ancoats Community Choir and London Contemporary Voices. An upbeat affair with more experimentation, in part necessitated by the departure of drummer Richard Jupp.
Elbow – All Disco
Fufanu – Sports
Second album from the Icelandic post-punkers with a title track right out of the Cure/Joy Division stable, but there's plenty of variety and some deft electronica to enjoy. The vinyl version has a limited red flexidisc to boot!
Fufanu – Sports
Eliza Carthy & The Wayward Band – Big Machine
Another outing for the Wayward Band features the Carthy penned 'You Know Me' about the migrant crisis and notions of hospitality (featuring MC Dizraeli), a powerful cover of Ewan Maccoll's Radio Ballad 'The Fitter's Song' and an affectionate reworking of 'Hug You Like a Mountain' (Rory MacLeod), re-imagined here as a duet with Teddy Thompson.
Eliza Carthy & The Wayward Band – Fade & Fall
Cigarettes After Sex – EP1
Cigarettes After Sex are an ambient pop group based out of Brooklyn. A bit of a YouTube phenomenon, their sound is very much influenced by the Cocteau Twins and Hope Sandoval/Mazzy Star.
