Johnny Lynch returns with a beautifully eclectic release and an alternative love note to his adopted Hebridean home the Isle of Eigg – psych folk, acoustic pings and crashes mingling with dance electronica in this search for the euphoric in the bucolic wrapped in the eccentric. Nature, environment, sincerity and artifice, escapism and belonging harmonise and come into conflict, as Lynch wrestles with how this place runs within and without him, with echoes of The Flaming Lips, Eels and other influences. Standout tracks include the wonderfully opener and title track, the fuzz-box rocking Natural Successor, oddball bleeps and sounds on The River It Runs Inside of Me, the mellow but surreal Thistle, and In The Land of The Dead, an eight-bit glitch-core reflection on island party excesses. Brimming with manic, anarchic invention. Out on Fire Records (with support from his own label Lost Map Records).
