Cool, stylishly original trip-hop, jazz, alt-rock and pop by the New York Iranian-American singer-songwriter Rahill Jamalifard on a deeply personal release which also includes guests Beck and Jasper Marsalis (Slauson Malone). There’s a fabulous catchy, trip-along, slumming, crunchy pop to tracks such as the shuffling, former Song of the Day Fables, featuring Beck, or the reggae-ish Tell Me, as well as deeply personal and wistful reflections on family, notably I Smile For E, a love letter tribute to her sadly departed Aunt Elaheh, described as the rock of her father’s family, and the album is interspersed with sounds of childhood and wistful references to home life. Other standouts include the sunny yet melancholy jazz of Bended Light, and closing track Note To Self. Refreshing, gently emotional, intricate, classy work. Out on Big Dada / Ninja Tune.
