Eclectic, striking mainstream label debut LP for the 27-year-old American pop artist Raveena Aurora who blends rhythms and more from her Sikh Indian heritage with traits of R&B, soul, funk, 00s trip-hop and ambient electronica. There are some prominent guests on key tracks, including Vince Staples on one of the standout tracks, Secret, and LA singer-songwriter-producer Tweaks on New Drugs, and a particular flavour in the form of veteran Bombay-born singer Asha Puthli on the dreamy Asha’s Kiss, but standouts are also much when she shines alone, such as on the rhythmic Kismet, opener Rush, the funky Kathy Left 4 Katmandu, the breezy soulful pop of Mystery and Circuit Board. The later part of the album is more meditative and slow with intermission tracks, such as The Internet Is Like Eating Plastic, or Arrival To The Garden of Cosmic Speculation, which might be a little languorous, but shows a thoughtful spoken word and ambient range in which her voice can also soar. Raveena released the independent LP Lucid in 2019, which showed the buds of her her talents, which are now blossoming. Cosmic cross-cultural blends. Out on Warner.
