This final album by Ewart Beckford, the veteran pioneer of reggae toasting who died in February this year is fitting collection of classic tracks joined by a variety of guests including Ziggy Marley, Santigold, Shaggy and Mick Jones. With a cluster of well-known numbers, many also covered by other artists, this posthumous release is certainly designed for mainstream appeal, but hopefully it will also inspire exploration into his back catalogue, particular that prolific first decade which began with his first singles and album in 1970 after being spotted by John Holt of The Paragons. Standouts include opener Trenchtown Rock with Ziggy Marley, Man Next Door with Santigold, Stop That Train with Rygin King, and Wake the Town. As the great man often exclaims, “I’ll kill ya!” Out on Trojan Jamaica/BMG.
