After worms and slugs, we turn to a toad, but this time this metaphor by Sean Lennon and Les Claypool’s band appears to lambast the disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, from their 2019 album South of Reality. The big movie mogul Weinstein, toady by appearance and nickname, is mired in multiple alleged sexual misconduct and rape accusations, and has recently been reported to have reached “a tentative $44m deal to resolve a number of lawsuits and compensate his alleged victims”. But let’s concentrate on the music, which includes an outstanding fat slap bass by Claypool, better known for his work with the band Primus, as well as many other projects. Lennon meanwhile, son of the famous Beatle, and Yoko Ono, is on guitar and vocals, cementing this as syncopated, psychedelic, caustic funk-rock.
In Toady Man's hour
He liked to flex his power
But things have gone a little bit sour
Since he showed his dirty hand
Now the newsman's a-knockin'
Attorney fees are clockin'
And everyone is throwing rocks at the Mr. Toady Man
Toady Man!
In Toady Man's world
He likes them bleached and curled
He never thought it'd come unfurled
'Cause he didn't think they'd sing
But the birdies started chirpin'
Usurpers are usurpin'
And there's Toady Man just a-blurpin'
How he used to be the king
Toady Man!
Toady Man!
[Chorus]
If Toady Man weren't such a toady man
He could have been ruler of the land
Instead he's just a toady little man
Toady Man!
Toady Man!
In Toady Man's hour he rode the Ivory Tower
But then he tried to sniff a flower
That he really should have not
In the Hollywood hustle
He flexed his mighty muscle
And now he's in a legal tussle
Fat bastard got caught
[Chorus]
If Toady Man weren't such a toady man
He could have been ruler of the land
Instead he's just a toady little man
Toady Man!
[Ironic outro]
I once met the toady man and he's actually quite charming.
