A welcome return by the Texas folk rock band, with a haunting, melancholy but warmly energetic track named after the amphitheatre site from the Woodstock festival, and taken from their forthcoming album For the Sake of Bethel Woods, their first since 2013’s Antiphon, and released 18 via Bella Union and ATO Records. The record is dedicated to the deceased father of keyboardist and flautist Jesse Chandler, who attended Woodstock in 1969 at the age of 16, and was an inspiration for getting the band back together. Themes include loss, hope, isolation, communion, and the cessation and renewal of purpose.
I could get rid of it all for the sake of the Bethel Woods
To a time and a place where peacefulness once stood
Gather the women and children
Leave our homes and our buildings
I've been ready for years now
Planted my seeds in the ground
With no more
I will get rid of it all for the sake of the Bethel Woods
A love of another without strings as it should
Gather your courage and pillars
Leave what's become familiar
I've been ready for years now
Planted my seeds in the ground
I'll go ahead of this
Meet me in time to be down the road
I'd get rid of it all for the sake of the Bethel Woods
Where neither moth nor the rust doth corrupt as it would
Let's get out of town without a sound
The wanted found, no want to bounds
I'll go ahead of this
Meet me in time to be
Whether the winter's cold
Every turn of seasons told
In the joys and in the woes
Follow along the path
When will it lead us back down the road?
I'll go ahead of this
Meet me in time to be
Whether the winter's cold
Every turn of seasons told
In the joys and in the woes
Follow along the path
When will it lead us back down the road?
