Taken from his forthcoming new album The Spoon, strangely compelling, momentum-building funk and soul with an original twist by the South London’s Norwich-born singer-songwriter and jazz guitarist. Oscar Jerome is also a member of the London afrobeat band Kokoroko, and among many others he’s worked with Shabaka Hutchings, Moses Boyd, Yussef Dayes, and Lianne La Havas. To explore more his work, include the 2020 debut solo album Breathe Deep, see also the other embedded links below the song itself.
So I sit, I see, I think, I smell
Something gracious, something rotten
I’m great, I’m good, I’m fine, I’m swell
Confidence hit rock bottom
Things they run away before we’ve had a chance to walk
My foundations were only based on talk
I talk out loud to people when they’re not there
Waking up paralysed, vacant stare
The last time the pillow smelled of your hair
It was too much
‘Cause I care
I actually calm but I care yes I really, really care
‘Cause I see him in the reflection of a woman’s eyes
I act calm but I really, really
‘Cause I see him in the reflection of a woman’s eyes
Really, really care
‘Cause I see him in the reflection of a woman’s eyes
I act calm but I really, really
‘Cause I see him in the reflection of a woman’s eyes
Really, really care…
So I seek I find some peace of mind
In everyone except myself
Mental wealth trapped in a touch screen
Leave it on the shelf
Don’t look back don’t look forward
Just be present right here, right now
Just be present, just be present yeah
Distance makes the hurt grow weaker
But it pulls the heart strings longer
I don’t really think my heart could ever grow fonder
Than it already is
‘Cause I love you, and I miss, and I love you yes I love you
And I really, really care
‘Cause I see him in the reflection of a woman’s eyes
I act calm but I really, really
‘Cause I see him in the reflection of a woman’s eyes
Really, really care
‘Cause I see him in the reflection of a woman’s eyes
I act calm but I really, really
‘Cause I see him in the reflection of a woman’s eyes
Really, really care…
‘Cause I really really care!
Really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really,
Ah ah ah
So I sit, I see, I think, I smell
Something gracious, something rotten!
I’m great, I’m good, I’m fine, I’m swell
Confidence hit rock bottom!
Really really care!
