Sounding like a sunlit landscape of whispering grasslands, this beautiful mix of folk, jazz, ambient electronica and gentle psychedelia comes with the pure, soft, soaring voice of the Manchester singer-songwriter. Subtly layered and slow, the album is a full listening experience rather than any particular standouts, but glides beautifully throughout. Flourish sets the scene, To Me has a lovely shuffling rhythm, Tubercular Skies has eloquent vocal harmonies, Fireless evokes a tranquil evening of sad, echoey reflection, Every Waking Moment is pure acoustic guitar folk. And so it continues, but perhaps the pick of the bunch is Path, with its swinging three-time tempo, and the title track which has dynamic feels and elemental echo of Sigur Ros. A beautiful release that takes its own sweet time to unfold before closing the snappy snare-based Hold Your Own and the ethereally quiet guitar and voice closing track All That Light. Out on Gondwana Records.
