Nearly three decades along, packed with slick, sharp, flowing, humorous lyrics, catchy beats and rockin’ riffs, the British hip-hop band best known for the hit song Eat My Goal return with their first LP since 2018’s Zero Hours Band. Fronted by Jim Burke, who has a successful alternative career as satirical chap-hopper Mr B. The Gentleman Rhymer, and founder member Ant Chapman, they retain that classic early-90s style (the golden age of hip hop) with their own self-deprecatory and caustic wit and clever sampling craft, though this album has some added heavy guitar rock flavour. Standout tracks include opener The Punchline, Too Many Communes, Red Brick Municipal Buildings, Protest Songs, We Roll Shallow, and the equipment complaint song, Mic Cuppers (we all have our bugbears …) Huge fun also to catch at their live shows, constantly packed with killer lines and beats, silly samples, in-jokes, jest the sheer joy of the flowing rhythms of rap.
