The Nigerian sound and installation artist best known for his soundscapes and field recordings of life in Lagos releases a fascinating LP that combines those sounds with electronica to capture the hustle-and-bustle of that busy city. On Everydaywehustlin, for example, we hear voices of market traders. On other tracks, such as opener Lekki Aiah Freeway, there’s the sound of car horns. It’s the sound of life and all forms, of the need survive, and Odboh, who has also lived and worked in Berlin, describes how he couldn’t sleep in that German city because it was far too quiet compared to the 24-hour hubbub of the Nigerian capital. Only five tracks fill the 40 minutes of beats, clicks and whirs, which themselves are mesmeric, in a strangely alluring album that certainly captures a sense of the elsewhere. Below there is also a previous interview with Ogboh in which he explains his art. Out on A-TON.
