The masked and mysterious Swedish collective return with their fourth studio LP, (not counting 2021’s Headsoup compilation) with a gloriously unholy fusion of psychedelic, prog and heavy rock, African and Indian influences centred around life’s ultimate end-meaning. There are echoes of Captain Beefheart to Funkadelic and Jimi Hendrix to William Onyearbor. Opener Soon You Die drips with heavy psych rock, Chuka Pesa, for example, has a tabla opening and strains of the folkier side of Led Zeppelin. Under No Nation is a powerful standout. Do The Dance echoes feels like a ceremonious marriage of Beefheart, Siouxsie Sioux, Iron Maiden and Bow Wow Wow. Goatmilk is a funky dose of echoey wah-wah, flutes and playful rhythms and Blow The Horns channels sub-Saharan guitar styles. Overall, a gloriously primal, playful, earthy, fire-filled indulgence of immense fun. Out on Rocket Recordings.
