A gorgeously tender, stripped-back collaborative LP as South African singing star Msaki joins Soweto multi-instrumentalist and Keleketla! member Tubatsi Mpho Moloi, with accompaniment by Parisian cellist Clément Petit, who particularly features on the deliciously plucked numbers Subaleka and Zibonakalise. It’s a welcoming album in every way, “Come On In” being the first words we hear on this mostly English language album, and Msaki’s serene vocals on the love song Come In. Winter In July, with thumb piano and bird call and gentle electronica and woodwind is another beauty, as well as the slow, resonant woven vocals, strings and more on closing track Fika. A beautiful work of great talents intertwining. Let’s hope they work together again for a second album. Out on the Nø Førmat! label.
