A strange and alluring debut solo LP of experimental work by the jazz bassist, singer, environmentalist and composer whose combination of pieces, each with different tunings, often uses harmonics and atypical vocal harmonies to often create a chiming bell effect. Goller is the bassist with Acoustic Ladyland and Melt Yourself Down, and she’s performed and recorded with Shabaka Hutchings and Paul McCartney. These bold and experimental songs are created more by ear and improvisation, many of these are abstract, oddball, ghostly, but also eerily very beautiful and with eye-catching titles that are more like the opening lines of some short story: “Often they came to visit, even just to see how she was (M1)”. Each number is like an extraordinary painting in sound. the song “What’s Really Important She Wanted to Know part 1” includes Alice Grant join on intertwining vocals. This is an album rich in timbres and sonic adventure. To enjoy and explore of her work visit Ruth Goller’s website.
