This debut album by the New Orleans indie psych rock band is full of bluesy, catchy, snappy tunes and wistful lyrics, shades of 1970s Kinks, Richard Lloyd, Tom Verlaine, Ultimate Painting, Velvet Underground and Teenage Fanclub. In The Beginning certainly has echoes of Sweet Jane, Unchain Your Heart has a feel of Let’s Spend The Night Together by the Stones. Around the Bend and Some of What You Want are perhaps a standout, Out of the Darkness has a pub rock feel, while Some of What You Want moves more the the end of the 70s with echoes of Squeeze, while all along sweet vocal harmonies give it all a light, likeable touch, while closing rack On The Way Home is a bittersweet mix of Kinks and Teenage Fanclub. Rock on. Out on Third Man Records.
