A solid 10/10 for the band from Austin, Texas, who, with this 10th studio album of 10 songs in 25 years and their familiar alt-blues rock sound remains consistently strong and unmistakably them, even when opening with a Smog cover, Held. From Britt Daniel’s voice to drummer Jim Eno, as well guitar, bass and added piano and a dash of brass, there always seems to be never too much and never too little. Standout tracks include Wild, which has echoes of early 70s Stones, The Hardest Cut, which was a recent Song of the Day, Feels Alright, On The Radio, the title track and the dreamier, softer Astral Jacket. There’s always something comforting Spoon’s endurance and delivery, and none more so than on this latest LP. Out on Matador Records.
