A dark, arresting, gnarly, frenzied fusion of dance-funk post-punk by the south London quartet with an LP that feels like a gripping journey through a fictional night-club underworld, with echoes of the Prodigy and Baxter Dury-style vocalisations. That guttural, passionate, whisper-talk-shout delivery comes from the distinctive layrnx of vocalist Harrison Swann, instantly hitting full range in the high-octane, punchy opener Gold, doing close to mic around stormy, jagged guitars and punchy bass in Oh! You’re All Mine!, or the tightly syncopated inebriation of Red/White. Among other standouts, the number Closer also shows up the rhythmic skills and dynamism of this band, swirling around a catchy riffs, funky in a Red Hot Chilli Peppers-style on Got Solid, while closing track Catalonia feels like a reinvented Prodigy producing dark, prodding bass and trippy acid rhythms. A very impressive band doing mesmeric, energetic, bold, confident work. Out on Missing Piece Records.
