After a decade of omertà and schism, the eclectic Texanprog-rock experimental duo of Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and band finally reunite with a mesmerically unique blend of funk, rock, psychedelia, Cuban and Afro-Cuban drumming and English and Spanish lyrics. One of their previous singles, Blacklight Shine, was a Song of the Day here, and came with a short film. The album expands on this experimentalism with energy and invention, with standouts including Graveyard Love, which mixes in electronica, the rock-ballad style Vigil, the crisp Hispanic rhythms of Que Dios Te Maldiga Mi Corizon, the prog-jazzy interweaving melodies of Blank Condolences, Equus 3, and the gentler Palm Full of Crux. A unique blend and band, with much to unpack from several listens. Out on Clouds Hill Records and Bandcamp.
