Laid-back, lo-fi and easy on the ears, the Brooklyn duo of Molly Hamilton and guitarist Robert Earl Thomas return with they sixth LP of indie-Americana of slow, but self-assured numbers. The title track is “about things we choose, dress up in and adopt as symbols of who we are. Things that become objects loaded with meaning until we eventually lose or discard them, grow out of them.” Other standouts include Everything Is Simple (“… until it’s not”) with a strong, rising bass line and Hamilton’s sensual breathy, delivery, While You Wait, with beautiful fluttering instrumental woodwind, Slow Dance, and country-style The Drive. The music, such as on Slow Drive, especially in guitar and keyboard solos, feels more improvised than highly polished, but the fluidity and walking pace of the album seems to suit that – comfortable, relaxed, but nicely fitted.
