Dark, loud, and powerful, the much anticipated debut LP by the Liverpool rock band finally lands with a set of searing guitar riffs, stadium-filling sounds and an electrifying lyrical sizzle provided the vocal range of frontwoman Lia Metcalfe. Hot and heavy, there are strains of early 80s goth to 90s grunge to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Nick Cave, Queens of the Stone Age and the late, great Mark Lanegan. Standouts include Dangerous (“I was riding the fire / I was down on my knees / Before you said that desire / Oh, it’s such a dangerous thing”), In My Head (a previous Song of the Day) Hung Up, and the brooding, slower closing track, The Confession Song, which wouldn’t be out of place as a Bad Seeds number. Blistering. Out on Universal.
