After many singles and four EPs, the British rapper’s and brand designer’s full debut LP is a stylish mix of hip hop, jazz and R&B filled with impressive braggadocio, reflections on his Ghanaian heritage, with songs love, crime, race, and the black experience, and talking excerpts by his beloved mother. The single Gansta, for example, is dedicated to how she was his true role model, but not in the criminal sense, but in her tough, protective instinct for survival when she moved the Britain. There’s a array of guests to colour delivery throughout, including standouts Tiana Major9 on the title track, and Lex Amor on War Outside. Other standouts include the brassy Nappy, the punchy Payback (featuring Knucks), the smooth confidence boostng soul-gospel Silk with Masego. No shortage of confidence, panache, range and indeed, plenty of reasons for Kwadwo Adu Genfi Amponsah and his mum to be happy. Out on Bellyempty Limited / Asylum / Warner.
