A fourth particularly fine, tender, emotional LP in only five years by the New York indie rock band fronted by singer-songwriter John Ross, with a theme, as the title suggests of loving very much, with some powerful and poignant moments, and broader experimental sounds, and some parallels with Sufjan Stevens. Perhaps the most tender of these is Hold My Hand, a tender piano piece with Julien Baker, and one made more poignant by the fact that Ross was undergoing a cancer scare when it was written. Further guests include Mike Brenner, Samantha Crain, J Mascis, Peter Silberman, Julia Steiner, Ryley Walker, and Yasmin Williams, and other standouts include See You Better Now, the title track, which is among this slow, gentle album’s most energetic songs, Hell Is Cold, the breathy and especially the sensual, dreamy The Grass Widow in the Glass Window (with Yasmin Williams), and reverberant opener Cahooting the Multiverse. Out on Royal Mountain Records.
