With echoes of Shuggie Otis, 1970s George Harrison, and heaps of Sly Stone-style chilled, squelchy funk, the British singer-songwriter third album is smooth helping of soulful pop with a delicious, laid-back summer vibe. Healey certainly has a talent for a tune, and even though he was dropped by Columbia Records after his first LP, People and Their Dogs (2017), and then recorded and released his second album Twin Heavy (2020) on Yala! Records, he continues to attract many famous admirers, including Jamie T who makes a guest appearance here on the chilled but caustic and cutting track Thank You. Also on this album his voice has also matured, feeling more comfortable across a range of styles, even though at times they feel a little bit like silly but fun parody comedy songs of Flight of the Conchords. Standouts include the slow funk of Dreams, Bluebird, Woke Up Smiling, Little Sister, Tiger Woods and the rather beautiful Black Camaro. Out Yala! Records.
