After Miss Otis Regrets, another songs about a women who decided to stop taking abuse from a man, this time by the band from Brixton whose song eventually became synonymous with the Sopranos. But really the song, with lyrics penned by singer Rob Spragg, aka Larry Love, is inspired by the 1996 murder case of Warwickshire woman Sara Thornton who in 1989 stabbed her husband after years of abuse. She was convicted of murder, but in 1996 her case was a cause celebre for abused women, and her sentence was reduced to manslaughter, allowing her to be freed. Like the last two songs, the woman picks up a gun. The other great strength of this song is the style - shuffly a mixture of Howlin’ Wolf blues and electronica. It comes from the 1996 album Exit On Coldharbour Lane. In the US, the band is known as A3 for short, to avoid confusion with the country band Alabama.
