A singer-songwriter of wonderful warmth, intelligence and voice, a song from her eponymous first album from this year. Adapting her name from the word for wandering nomad, Azniv Korkejian has a strong sense of what this means – born in Aleppo, Syria to Armenian parents, Korkejian spent her childhood in Saudi Arabia, and then moved to America. With a quality that reminds of Leonard Cohen and Joan Baez, it is her lyrics which are particularly outstanding. Here's a live version:
