From Going Wild in the Country, we move to a very contrasting, cautious and introverted perspective about wildness, and really a fear of the unknown. Stevens writes about a relationship breakup, generally thought to be the actress Patti D’Arbanville. The song comes from his fourth studio album of 1970, Tea For The Tillerman, and became a huge hit. Stevens described the chord sequences as being common in Spanish music to capture that distinctive melancholy, all through simplicity in structure and meaning. He has also been perfectly open that the song is about his own life. His clear, intelligent voice has always marked his work. He is also famous for rejecting secular music and become a Muslim in 1977, after a huge period of success, and later changing his name to Yusuf Islam. Hugely influential on songwriters, and never afraid to speak his mind he eventually returned to performing some religious music, but then in 2006 became to release singer-songwriter material as Yusuf, with now three further albums and working with various collaborators, including Dolly Parton. He has also won a variety of awards for his songwriting as well as his charity work and peace activism. Wild One has been covered by numerous artists, including Maxi Priest, James Blunt and Garth Brooks.
