After the ‘fuss and fight’ of the Paragons and later Massive Attack on Man Next Door, and reverse of perspective from the neighbour making the noise, in a powerful version by the great and underrated English folk guitarist and singer. This number, written by Alton Joseph Valier with later additions by Jimmy Hughes, was originally done by the Graham Bond Organisation, which included soon to be Cream’s Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce, in 1965. But the folk singer’s version, from 1966’s Midnight Man album (he was originally spelled Davy, not Davey) is arguably superior in style. It remains defiantly shocking, aggressive and threatening, telling a concerned neighbour to mind their own business, while the narrator is busy, almost certainly instigating domestic violence. The song has been variously covered by other artists, with differing lyrics, including Dr Feelgood and Jerry Garcia.
Neighbour neighbour, don't you worry what goes on in my home
Neighbour neighbour, I’ve told you before
You’ve got nose trouble, and mouth trouble too,
Something bad gonna happen to you
Neighbour neighbour, don't you worry what goes on in my home.
Neighbour neighbour, don't worry how I make my bread,
My success is driving you out of your head,
You’re going around from door to door
Running your mouth about things you don’t know,
Neighbour neighbour, don't you worry what goes on in my home.
Neighbour neighbour, don't you worry how I treat my wife
None of your business if I beat her every night of my life (/iff we fuss and fight)
You’ve got nose trouble, and mouth trouble too,
Something bad's gonna happen to you
Neighbour neighbour, don't you worry what goes on in my home
Neighbour neighbour, don't you worry who goes in and out my door
Neighbour neighbour stop pacing all over the floor
You're sweeping, creeping through the hall
Keeping your great big ear glued to my wall
Neighbour neighbour, don't you worry what goes on in my home
