After the retro-funk disco of Róisín Murphy, another new track with a parallel style but a new twist from the young Halifax quartet, who have their own unique blend of fresh, pace-changing indie-dance-funk-pop. There is an out-of-space theme to the song, from the Spanish for flying disco, the idea is airborne, pertaining to anything from “a frisbee, a UFO, an alien nightclub or the feeling of flight; physically or that euphoric buzz from a great party,” as bassist and singer, Esmé Dee Hand-Halford. In short, something of a “space boogie”. Among their influences are Italian film score composers Sandro Brugnolini and Piero Umiliani, or the eclectic Texan band Khruangbin and Middle Eastern artist Altin Gün.
The Orielles’ acclaimed debut album, Silver Dollar Moment was released in 2018 on Heavenly Recordings, with a second in the pipeline due for release in late February this year.
Oh, Disco Volador
Can you re-align the boundaries of my sensory home
Oh, Disco Volador
Love is haptic, my revision could fool anyone
Disco
Brings the facets to the party, whenever it's on
Volador
Sends you flying to get higher than ever before
Oh, Disco Volador
Makes me feel like I'm a being in the breadth of the world
Oh, Disco Volador
When it's passing I am present from my mind is unfurled
Disco
Satisfaction is reacting to the weight of it all
Volador
Indecision is a vision of a fictitious force
Just like a feeling on its way
An object who has shown it existed on the way
Can you see it there?
Gotta catch it, yeah?
Is our experience the same?
Oh, Disco Volador
Can you re-align the boundaries of my sensory home
Oh, Disco Volador
Love is haptic, my revision could fool anyone
Disco
The reality's eternal and so fake to us all
Volador
Is space waiting isolated, or is it simply cold?
Just like a feeling on its way
An object who might show it existed on the way
Can you see it there?
Gotta catch it, yeah?
Is our experience the same?
