A beautiful slow-burning new number suffused grief but also hope, from Melbourne singer-songwriter Tanya Batt, duetting here with Sharon Van Etten, whom she supported in Australia, both voices sublimely complementary. Tanya Batt’s work, previously AMP-nominated, has has echoes of the work of Weyes Blood and Julia Jacklin. Her last studio LP was 2019’s The Grand Tour, a concept album about the Voyager Mission that saw her collaborating with NASA, using samples collected from the mission. To enjoy and explore more of her work see the embedded Spotify and Bandcamp links below. Out on Mistletone in Australia and New Zealand, and her own label, I Feel Fine.
You watch the sun it rises over these blue horizons
Baby I’m fickle hearted, I’m not conventionally started
I wish I rose like you rose
Full bloomed and always first chose
I’m likely staying ‘till the end
I wish I could see the blue babe
I wish I could see the blue
I wish I could see the blue babe
But all I do is feel the blue
I feel the moon descending
Over back lit high rises
Sure of what I need to tell you
I’m holding on to both ends
I need somewhere to land
Never opening up my wings
Falling into you
I wish I could see the blue babe
I wish I could see the blue
I wish I could see the blue babe
But all I do is feel
That everything left on this place
Makes no sense I feel displaced
I can’t see beauty in a damn thing
That should be beautiful
I want to feel the way I used to feel
Is that possible
I want to see the light seep through the cracks
Will that come back
I don’t care where I start just help me out
I just want to see the blue babe
I just need to see the blue
I wish I could see the blue babe
But all I do is feel
