A truly gorgeous previously unreleased, intimate, haunting acoustic song discovered after the passing of the British band’s singer Trish Keenan, heralding a compilation, Distant Call - Collected Demos 2000-2006, and the final release from Broadcast, available from 28 September 2024 via Warp Records.
Broadcast, the experimental acclaimed dream pop, psychedelic and electronica band from Birmingham, released five studio albums and soundtrack projects between 1995 and 2011, the year Keenan died. Distant Call is a collection of early demos that were worked into finished productions appearing on Haha Sound, Tender Buttons and The Future Crayon.
The previously unreleased and undiscovered Come Back To Me, and another song, Please Call To Book, was Keenan’s response to Broadcast's 2006 ‘Let’s Write A Song’ project, where fans were asked to submit lyrics on a postcard which would then be worked into a finished song. It was later discovered by the band’s remaining member, James Cargill. To explore and enjoy more by Broadcast, see also the other embedded links below.
Come back, come back to
Sunday's task is undone
More seeds in the morning
More sun will return to the sky
It's a pretty chain
It's a pretty a game
When the rippling stream
Runs away with her gently but leave
Walk with me, walk with me
There stones in my head
Let me dance in the seaweed
Untangle the words up ahead
Tie love, tie love to me
To anchor me deep
I'm sinking upside
In my nighty and wavery feet
Come back, come back to me
To anchor me deep
I answer the answers
I shout in the air
I admit I'm wrong
But I'm grouping my good to compare
Come back, come back to me
To anchor me there
Come back, come back to
Sunday's task is undone
More seeds in the morning
More sun will return to the sky
Come back, come back to me
To anchor me, night
Come back, come back to me
To anchor me, night
