A flamboyant swirl of prog, jazz, post-punk, dynamic changes of pace and volume, and more than awash with visceral metaphor, this strangely transfixing love song by suave and showy south London quartet typifies their latest album, Debonair, which is also shown here. The band are singer-songwriter and keyboardist Theo McCabe, King Krule drummer George Bass, singer-guitarist Jacob Read and bassist Jack Marshall. To enjoy more of their work, see the Spotify and Bandcamp links below.
Eyes like a lagoon
Body like a two month old balloon
As we lay here like a spoon, next to a spoon
Inside your room
Makes no sense to sleep
With you here next to me
It's far too hard to keep my body close to yours
If I could turn these sweaty palms to ragged claws
We could go anywhere
You defy me debonair
And my body like a disrepaired and poorly made punk statue of a pear
We could go anywhere
We could go anywhere at all
If I just wake you and we crawl downstairs
And out the door
Peel off our skins like an envelope
And leave it lying out on the floor
Legs like a shallow stream
Body like a ten stone bag of cream
As we lay here by your window and we dream
It makes no sense to sleep
It makes no sense to dream at all
If I just wake you and we crawl downstairs
And out the door
Peel off our skins like an envelope
And leave it lying out on the floor
Anywhere at all
Anywhere at all
Anywhere at all
Eyes like a lagoon
Body like a ten pound bag of shrooms
As we lay here by the window in your room
Makes no sense to sleep
With you here next to me
It's far too hard to keep my body close to yours
If I could turn these sweaty palms to ragged claws
We could go anywhere
We could go anywhere at all
If I just wake you and we crawl downstairs
And out the door
Remove our skin like an envelope
And leave it lying out on the floor
