Fabulously catchy new disco electro-pop by the duo of Sarah Jones and drummer Anthony Silvester in a number about an imagined conversation between two people who have drifted apart. The pair first collaborated as part of biting post-punk five-piece XX Teens in 2008, but then forged a separate music path, performing variously with Hot Chip, Harry Styles and Bloc Party. Those with keen ears with notice how the chorus loosely borrows from the grand theme of Handel's piece Sarabande, best known for being featured in Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece 1975 film, Barry Lyndon, with a clip of that also below, and appropriate for the theme of this song as the film follows the gradual rise then demise of the main character. We used to be friends, we had the same views
We used to find time, we used to be obsessed with each other
Why did we drift apart?
Why did you move away?
Why don't we keep in touch?
We used to be friends
We used to feel the same
We never had to rush
We had the same desires
We used to be friends
I guess we had to change
I guess we both grew up
But did we have to change?
We used to be friends
