Wonderful third album by the Amsterdam-based Turkish, Dutch, Indonesian and British band who infuse traditional Turkish songbook material with elecro-pop, funk and disco sounds in a way that feels authentic and uplifting. Founded by Dutch bassist Jasper Verhulst with musicians of international descent and switching between excellent male female vocalists Erdinç Ecevit and Merve Dasdemir, their instruments summon up eras from the ancient Ottoman empire to 80s New York disco and psychedelia, variously using synths, congas, drum machines, electric guitars and the harp-like Suzuki Omnichord. The album also has momentum of catchy funk that carries thorugh, particular from first single Ordunun Dereleri in the the third track, Bulunur Mu, Hey Nari, Yüce Dağ Başında and onwards, use of the drum machine on closing number Esmerim Güzelim, but of all of them the Brazilian funk feel of Kara Toprak perhaps the pick of the bunch. Overall outstanding fusions and joyously inspiring. Out on ATO Records / Glitterbeat Records.
