A heartfelt, visceral, both powerful and gentle LP by the Swinomish/Iñupiaq singer-songwriter Katherine Paul inspired by her 2020 journey to her ancestral lands from Portland to the Skagit River on Puget Sound in Washington State. Expansive, often with raw guitar sounds to gentle acoustic, and awash with images of this landscape you can almost smell the soil, from My Blood Runs Through This Land, to Sedna, Spaces, the gentle Salmon Stinta or rippling guitars on On The River, the pounding rhythms of former Song of the Day Nobody, the ghostly, whispery vocals on the beautiful Sčičudᶻ (a narrow place), all the way to Don’t Give Up, it’s an atmospheric, evocative, emotional journey with music that ranges from shoegaze to lo-fi indie to folk. Out on Saddle Creek.
