Cheeky, squeaky, funky, refreshingly fun, full of irony and a feminist flavour , the Japanese girl pop quartet return their fourth, and self-titled LP, a follow-up to last 2021’s WINK. There’s a nice edgy post-punk/indie sound to NEO KAWAII, K? while other parts of the album hark back to simpler retro 80s synth-pop. Other highlights include We The Female!, the new wave-style Game, and two-step dance craze reviving Para Para, while all tracks were written while on tour, Driving22 makes a particular reference to their endless journeying. Infectious retro pop from the band from Nagoya who ooze irresistible, mischievous charm. Out Sub Pop.
