With one of the best in over 20 years, Basildon’s veteran electro-pop specialists Martin Gore and Dave Gahan return, now sadly without Andy Fletcher who died last year, but with a album about sex, death and mutability that is also a tribute to their lost longtime colleague. Gahan’s voice feels as strong as ever, and Gore’s compositions of dark, industrial pop and textures. Highlights include the outstanding former Song of the Day, Ghosts Again, opener My Cosmos Is Mine, the beautiful retro-80s synth sounds of Wagging Tongues, My Favourite Stranger, Before We Drown, the Kraftwerk-inspired People Are Good, and closing track, Speak To Me. Out on Columbia Records.
