Released in September, the French band’s latest LP is another sparkling gem of 60s psychedelic and “yéyé noir” surf pop – whisperingly seductive, witty, wistful, stylish and sophisticated, from the breathless paced to the songs like a coil of smoke - moody, slow and pithily philosophical. Mirroring 2020’s LP One, Two, Three, it’s effortlessly cool work by the key duo of Anna Jean on guitars and lead vocals and Swanny Elzingre on drums and backing vocals (with Samy Osta on production, bass and keyboards), continuing to sound like something straight out of a movie, whether that’s French new wave or something fashioned by Quentin Tarantino with their thrumming, twanning buzzing riffs, reverberant Hammond organ, sprightly drumming and stylish talky-singing. Highlights include opener Le Silence, Bowling De Diano Marina, Monumental, former Song of the Day Méditerranée, À quoi bon? and Dans le Dos, but this is a smoky musical movie that sounds as good as it looks, from start to finish. Out on Le Phonographe.
