This eighth LP from the Leicester rockers and second since guitarist Serge Pizzorno took over on vocals from the sacked Tom Meighan edges closer to pop, disco as much as the more distinct psychedelia, but is full of punchy, catchy tunes. This is particularly evident on Coming Back To Me Good, or Italian Horror, designed surely for live singalong. The single Call builds to a euphoric dark disco beat. Opener Darkest Lullaby is has a lighter touch than previous records, but a pop shimmer. Perhaps the most striking is the closer, Algorithms, touching on the power of AI. Overall there’s nothing groundbreaking or outstanding, but not a bad album either, packed with strong tunes that, such as the rave-build, light funk and keyboard heavy pop Hell of It (“we’re all in it together”) is designed to evoke a sense of unity for a big live tour. Out on Sony.
