A magical, mesmeric second album by the London-based French and Turkish pair of Kit Martin and Merve Erdem is a unique fusion of vocals, jazz, funk, psych, featuring zithers, harpsichords, congas, bongos, bulbul tarang, balalaikas, organs, and saxophone. With Erdem singing in different languages there’s a fresh, indeterminate sense of time and place to their music too, something both modern and retro, conjuring everywhere from Italian Riviera to the mountains of the Caucasus, the beaches of Bahia to the city streets of Istanbul and Paris. Standout tracks include Valvarma, Agitate, Elegy For Love, Affet Beni, Inertia, and Please Don’t Take This Badly, but the entire album is a free-flowing, cross-cultural delight with music that is both intimate and evocatively cinematic. Out on Mr Bongo.
