Less an album more a uniquely special project of 12 monthly EP releases of beautiful, ghostly folk and experimental instrumentals, vocals and spoken stories by the violinist and cellist, with guests, capturing the changing seasons. Funded by the Arts Council, with limited edition CDs and vinyl, but all available to download via Bandcamp, the music is accompanied by by a series of films by six visual artists. Several releases had to be recorded their respective separate locations, Dublin and Suffolk, and elsewhere, due to Covid lockdown restrictions, and while there’s a stillness and beauty to all of their work, there are many addition sounds and guests. For example August’s edition includes a witches harp (telyn wrachod) played by Rhodri Davies, a personal ode to the ‘Virus Summer’ written and read by standup Stewart Lee, and the layered sounds of a village pipe organ and cello played in the shadows. Various examples can be enjoyed below on the YouTube playlist which also shown the films, there are examples on the embedded Spotify list, as well as embedded Bandcamp links. All releases can be found via the artist’s label, Brawl Records as well as their websites lauracannell.co.uk and kathryntickell.com.
