The veteran (25 years) New York indie psych rock band’s first album since 2018’s Romance is a refreshing bounce back of unpretentious joy, krautrocky rhythms, Ramones strums, and rasping guitar Sonic Youth-type squawls, with and LP that’s a throwback that also feels fresh. This is apparent from the off with opener Beat Me To The Punch, but the throttles really open up with the electrifyingly psychedelic Opportunities (“so many choices to make”, as well as Low Tide, I Wanna Hold Your Electric Hand all the way to the seventh track across the 41 minutes, Solid, the title of which very much sums this even, enjoyable release. Out on Joyful Noise Recordings.
