A playful, inventive, witty, often humorous and highly original new LP by the Vermont-formed, New York City-based group fronted by Kalmia Traver and Alex Toth “dissolve the imaginary lines between the natural world and its human inhabitants”. Mixing indie, art-pop, funk and more, with a variety of instruments, it hits a likeable groove from the very beginning, and the title track could be interpreted on many levels of pleasure, pain and eco meltdown - “I've been coming a thousand years / You could call me the endless fuck / I'm really scared, but I have no fear / Other than you, my dear / I have ten ears and bleen-grue eyes / I'm made of clouds and inner childs,” intones Traver with a fabulously droll delivery. Rubblebucket’s lyrics are often double-edged and exist on multiple levels. Geometry, for example, opens with this gnomic, existentially surreal scenario: “I woke up in a painting / It's happened a lot lately / Has anyone seen the painter? /I'd like a different scene please.” Vivid mischief appears throughout the album, and other standouts include Morning In The Sun, Zeros As Round As the World, Melt Through The Floors, the jazz trumpet-infused Sweet Spot, and Cherry Blossom. Wonderfully odd and alternative. Out on Grand Jury Music.
