'"It's going to be bright, bright, sunshiney day." Our recent songs of the day have all been about political turmoil and confusion, so let's now try and clear the air, and hope for some cloudless blue sky, in thought and mood at least, even though rain is never far away. A huge hit in the US in 1972, the Texas-born Nash was one of the first non-Jamaicans to record reggae, and this upbeat reggae-soul fusion was recorded in London with the legendary Jamaican reggae and soca band Fabulous Five Inc. Nash's song has been covered by dozens of artists as diverse as Horace Andy, Liza Minnelli, Petula Clark, Willie Nelson, Ray Charles, The Mamas & The Papas, Dusty Springfield, James Last, Donny Osmond, Willie Nelson, and perhaps best known, Jimmy Cliff for the 1993 film Cool Runnings, about the 1988 Winter Olympics Jamaican bobsleigh team. It also famously appeared on a dawn-breaking coffee commercial. Nash is now 76, but his song is an immortal anthem to optimism.
