“Now did you read the news today? They say the danger's gone away … There's too many men, too many people. Making too many problems, And there's not much love to go around.” Today we take the contemporary political climate in another direction. The original of this song came in 1986 with the Genesis trio of Collins, Rutherford, and Banks, alongside a Spitting Image-style video of the band alongside Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and other world leaders. Genesis had become something of a commercial behemoth by then, so instead here’s a quirkier, more nuanced version including piano and brass, by the Norwegian all folk-pop band.
And here's the Genesis original for comparison. A much brasher style, perhaps to go with the times, but with clever puppets created by Spitting Image's Peter Fluck and Roger Law video. Ironically it lost out in 1987's MTV video of year award to the bands former frontman, Peter Gabriel, for the stop-motion animation classic, Sledgehammer.
