Perky piano pop with a dark undertone about nature’s apocalypse by the Brighton band inspired by the clever, mysterious, tool-using corvid species, heralding a first album in 13 years. The band’s Will Calderbank and James de Malplaquet imagine what a conversation with crows might sound like and the latter explains:
“Will had the idea of crows taking over the world and clearing up when humans have messed everything up … I was visiting Sweden recently where I heard they are being trained to pick up cigarette buts, so I suppose this song is already coming true. A dark kind of hope.”
The Miserable Rich’s new album, Overcome, is due out on 2 February 2024 via Rags to Ruin Records. To explore and enjoy more by the band, see also the other embedded links below.
Please don’t stone the crows
For nobody knows
When we’re gone
Who’s gonna come
And sort it out after us
Well, they’re smarter than dogs
Using tools, digging in the dirt
Scavenging – why not?
And then their murder
Is just hanging with friends
‘Flying as the crow flies’ – well, wouldn’t you?
Let’s sing to the crows
Leave it to the crows to sort it out
Please don’t stone the crows
You know that they know
Who we are
They’re good with a face – and don’t forget
Self control – yeah
They’re smarter than kids – using tools
Skiing down a roof,
Causing fights – why not?
And then their murder
Is just hanging with friends
‘Flying as the crow flies’ – well, wouldn’t you?
Let’s sing to the crows
Leave it to the crows to sort it out
Feathers –yeah - as black as the night
Corvid cool
What a way to dress
Cause distress – why not?
And then their murder
Is just hanging with friends
‘Flying as the crow flies’ – well, wouldn’t you?
Let’s sing to the crows
Leave it to the crows to sort it out.
