Wonderfully eccentric, humorously droll and inventive second album by the highly original duo of producer and instrumentalist David Wrench and artist and vocalist Evangeline Ling filled with pathos as well as energy. We’ve previously standout opener The Doll on Song of the Day, a darkly humorous narrative of a lost child’s toy and police indifference, while LaLaLa It’s The Good Life is a gloriously wonky piece of electro-pop filled with chattering, ironic vocals inspired by conversations overheard on a south London bus. He Called Me Bambi is a truly oddball piece of psychedelia, First Move captures the awkwardness of uncertain romance, Black Lipstick is electro-rave that reaches a wonderful frenzy, and closing track Farmer is full of beautiful melancholy. Wrench’s musical inventiveness is ever present, and Ling’s presence is increasingly amusing on their records, as well as eccentric, and her delivery at times echoes the shouty charisma of Annabella Lwin from Bow Wow Wow. A fabulously oddball release that becomes more enjoyable each listen. Out on Heavenly Records.
